Paper, Paper, & More Paper: Kid's Memory Box
It’s that time of year…all the paper comes home, and it’s A LOT OF PAPER. Not all bad papers, but A LOT. Artwork (that took these sweet babies a ton of time), spelling tests, poems, journal entries you don't want to forget, math sheets, report cards, and the list goes on & on.
What do we do with all of it?
Years ago I wanted to save it all, so I did. But, GOSH, then I was surrounded by so much I didn’t appreciate the special ones. The next year I went through a phase of tossing more than I probably should have. After that I started to feel guilty, so I had a bin under a bed I would just toss everything into for each year.
None of these actions were the answer we needed for our season and family. Too messy, not sentimental enough, or just hiding under the rug waiting for the inevitable work ahead to sort.
Now we have created a Memory Box per child. It’s simple, easy, and manageable. Ultimately this system creates a single box of keepsakes the boys can take with them one day. Yes, we all know they will be dying to have this box in their college dorm, haha!
Concept Summary: Create a single file box per child. Create 14 file folders and PRE-LABEL each file. Fill no more than ONE file per school year. Store somewhere out of eye sight and twice a year fill with the sentimental papers, art, and photos you want to store and keep for that child.
Step by step:
Choose box
Create files
Label each files
Fill with anything and everything
Store somewhere out of the way
Enjoy looking through these in 10 years with your kids and laughing your head off!
